How to Use AI for Business Growth: 4 Practical Strategies That Actually Work

Learning how to use AI for business growth is simpler than most people think. In this guide I’ll share four practical strategies I use myself – from building your ideal customer profile to repurposing content at scale – without losing the human touch that actually builds trust.

How to Use AI for Business Growth: Start With Your Ideal Customer

I begin with a simple prompt.

‘Act as a business development expert and generate the ICP for my business based on all what you know about me and my business.’

This leverages the AI’s knowledge about me to create a highly relevant Ideal Customer Profile.

From there, I delve deeper into customer demographics and psychographics. This process helps me understand my ideal customer intimately.

Next, I instruct the AI to ‘generate a detailed analysis for each ICP along with the pain points and aspirations.’ This provides valuable insights into customer motivations and challenges. I can then tailor my business offerings to address customer needs and aspirations.

Client Data that AI Can Help With:

  • Goals

  • Dreams

  • Pain Points

  • Aspirations

  • Motivations

  • Purchasing Behavior

  • Chance to Reach Them

  • Primary & Secondary Needs

Also, my keyword “FCN-WD”: Fears, challenges, and needs. Wants and desires.

How AI Can Help You Refine and Strengthen Your Business Offering

Ask AI the following questions:

Am I providing the right offering?
What can be done better with the current offering?
How many products do I offer to solve client pain points?
What are the best products that I can offer for each persona?
What are the best approaches and channels to reach my ideal customer?
What other offerings can be potential additions to my plan for the next year?

Product Offerings as Ecosystem:

Start with a core ‘star’ product, such as an online course in the education space. Then, create lower-cost products like downloadable guides and templates (sold or offered as lead magnets). This creates a product funnel, guiding customers from free resources to higher-priced offerings.

A Hack:

Tell ChatGPT “Take a deep breath”, “I’ll give you a hundred dollars”, or the keyword “generate”. Most of the time it delivers better results.

I prioritize delivering ‘the three specifics’: a specific solution for a specific problem for a specific persona. This involves refining my ideal customer persona (including their pain points and aspirations). Also aligning my offerings (products/services, B2C/B2B) to perfectly address their needs.

Using AI for Content Ideas Without Losing Your Human Voice

Ask AI the following: ‘What are the best topics that I can address here? Generate a list of content topics for each of my target personas.’

  • Pick specific content: the more specific, the more it shines and answers the pain point.

  • Focus on niche topics: Address their specific aspirations and most challenging problems.

  • Prioritize storytelling: Authentic, real-world stories resonate far more than AI-generated content.

Use AI tools like ChatGPT to brainstorm content ideas, not to generate it for you. This is one of the most underrated ways to use AI for business growth – letting it handle the ideation while you handle the storytelling.

After having AI generate topics, craft stories around each topic. Drawing from your own experiences, or client stories. Humans relate to humans in the context of storytelling.

Human stories resonate more deeply than AI-generated content. Which often lacks the human touch – emotions, expertise, and personal experiences.

Highlight a relatable problem, its consequences, and ultimately, your solution.

This approach not only provides valuable content. But also positions you as a problem-solver.

A Few Hacks:

Try Hemingway Editor (Hemingwayapp.com). Paste your text, and it highlights complex sentences (in yellow or red). It shows you what needs rewriting for easier reading. Combine it with Grammarly for best practices. These are some of the best tools offered by AI for business growth.

How to Use AI to Repurpose One Piece of Content Into Many

Use AI to:

  • Extract key points from a single article.
  • Create multiple social media posts.
  • Visualize information by transforming sequences or timelines into infographics or carousels.
  • Use tools like Canva’s Magic Studio.

Content repurposing is where AI for business growth delivers the highest return on your time investment.

My Personal Rules for Using AI in Business

  1. I don’t solely rely on AI for business growth. While I utilize it for ideas, directions, and analysis, I ultimately do the work myself. AI is my tool, my helper.
  2. I don’t get caught up in chasing every new AI tool. I prioritize those that directly improve my productivity, save time, or generate leads.
  3. To maximize AI’s effectiveness, I feed it with structured data about myself and my business. For example, I tell ChatGPT: ‘Based on what you know about me and my business, and our previous conversations…’. The more information I give it, the more accurate and valuable the output.

FINAL WORDS:

Let these questions be your guide as you use AI for business growth:
How can I do better business?
How can I deliver more value to my clients? How can I stay in touch with them?
How can I be more productive and more efficient and create better content with less time and effort?

Let’s Recap… A Quick FAQ

Q1: How can AI help with business growth?
A: AI helps businesses grow by automating repetitive tasks, improving decision-making through data analysis, personalising customer experiences at scale, and identifying opportunities faster than traditional methods. The key is applying AI to specific business problems rather than adopting it for its own sake.

Q2: What are the most practical ways to use AI in a small or mid-sized business?
A: The most practical starting points are automating customer communication, using AI tools for content creation and research, analysing customer data to improve targeting, and streamlining internal workflows. These applications deliver visible results without requiring large technical investment.

Q3: Do I need a technical background to use AI for business growth?
A: No. Most modern AI tools are built for non-technical users and require no coding knowledge. Tools like ChatGPT, Notion AI, and various CRM integrations are designed to be used by business owners, marketers, and consultants without any technical setup.

Q4: What is the biggest mistake businesses make when adopting AI?
A: The biggest mistake is treating AI as a solution in itself rather than a tool that serves a strategy. Businesses that adopt AI without a clear goal often end up with fragmented tools that add complexity instead of removing it. Start with one specific problem, find the right tool, and measure the result before expanding.

Q5: How do I know if AI is actually working for my business?
A: Measure the outcome you were trying to improve before and after implementation. If you used AI to speed up content production, track time saved. If you used it to improve lead follow-up, track conversion rates. AI should produce a measurable change in the metric that matters – if it does not, the tool or application needs to change.
