Powerful Storytelling Techniques Engaging Content that initiates conversations!
Engagement is Different on LinkedIn. Likes, comments, and shares are traditional engagement metrics. However, LinkedIn’s audience is more in content consumption mode. That’s why clicks matter. Clicks on your post are a strong engagement signal that influences the algorithm.
Clicks can include:
- Clicking and swiping through slides in a carousel post
- Poll response clicks
- “See More” clicks
LinkedIn Algorithm and User Behavior
Here are five facts about the LinkedIn Algorithm today:
- The algorithm closely tracks individual user behavior and content performance.
- If you are active, your posts perform better than others with less frequent activity.
- The algorithm assesses a user’s overall platform activity, not just individual posts.
- You will increase engagement on your posts if you consistently share high-quality content.
- This will give you a better reach for future posts.
Engagement signals tell the algorithm your content is valuable ➡️ The algorithm will show your post to more people as a result of engagement ➡️ More people seeing your post leads to increased potential for further engagement. ➡️ Its a chain reaction!

Three Cs To Compliment Your Storytelling Techniques
The Catch (Hook)

Use questions, statistics, shocking facts, or intriguing statements.
The Content (value)
- Deliver valuable content that is relevant and useful for your audience.
- Use clear and concise language.

Focus on making your content easy to scan and consume.

Consider using emojis to add visual interest.
-
Ascending or descending text format
-
Short sentences
-
Numbered lists
-
Line breaks

Emojis
-
The Call to Action (CTA)
- A clear CTA encourages audience interaction and prevents scrolling.
- Users spend more time on posts with CTAs as they consider their responses.
- Engaging with content through a CTA helps solidify information in the mind.
- Using a consistent CTA in every post can increase overall engagement and shares.
Bonus Storytelling Techniques:
Commenting on your own post! Seriously? Yes! Commenting within the first 15 minutes of posting encourages further discussion and signals importance to the LinkedIn algorithm.
Consistent Content: To overcome algorithm fluctuations, focus on regular content posting. This builds trust and encourages direct audience interaction. Live events and newsletters are effective storytelling techniques to strengthen this connection.
Audience Ownership aka De-platforming: Transition your audience from social media to subscribers on your channels (website, newsletter). This is essential for long-term success and control over your content reach.
